Context of the Role
We are urgently seeking an experienced Chief Accountant to lead and manage the accounting function in Riyadh. The role is critical to ensuring financial integrity, regulatory compliance, and accurate reporting in a fast-paced business environment. The Chief Accountant will oversee day-to-day accounting operations, supervise the accounting team, ensure compliance with Saudi regulations (ZATCA requirements), and support senior management with reliable financial data for strategic decision-making.
Role Overview
The Chief Accountant is responsible for managing the full accounting cycle, ensuring compliance with IFRS and local Saudi regulations, maintaining strong internal controls, and delivering accurate and timely financial reporting. The role also acts as a key liaison with auditors, banks, tax authorities, and senior management.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
- Oversee the full accounting cycle (GL, AP, AR, fixed assets, payroll accounting)
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Ensure compliance with IFRS and local statutory requirements
- Manage closing process and ensure timely reporting
- Perform balance sheet reconciliations and account analysis
Tax & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with ZATCA regulations (VAT, Zakat, WHT)
- Prepare and review VAT and tax filings
- Coordinate with external auditors and tax advisors
- Ensure proper documentation and audit readiness
Internal Controls & Governance
- Implement and monitor internal control procedures
- Ensure proper segregation of duties
- Maintain accounting policies and procedures
- Identify financial risks and propose mitigation strategies
Budgeting & Forecasting
- Support preparation of annual budgets
- Monitor budget performance and variance analysis
- Provide financial insights to management
Minimum Experience Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- Experience in an accounting and supervising role – 8 to 12 years minimum
- Experience in Saudi Arabia is highly preferred
- Strong exposure to VAT, Zakat, and local compliance requirements
- Experience in audit coordination is required
- Industry experience in construction, trading, manufacturing, or services is a plus
Key Competencies & Skills
Technical Skills
- Strong ERP experience (SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar)
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, financial modelling, data analysis)
- Financial reporting automation tools knowledge is a plus
- Understanding of digital accounting systems and e-invoicing (FATOORA)
Analytical Skills
- Strong financial analysis and problem-solving abilities
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to interpret financial data for decision-making
