Job Overview
The Field Test Engineer is responsible for validating products under real-world usage conditions. The role supports development and pre-launch phases by assessing the performance, robustness, and user experience of equipment and accessories in operational environments. The Field Test Engineer works closely with Product, R&D, Quality, and Technical Support teams to identify improvement opportunities and ensure product reliability before market release.
Key Responsibilities
Test Preparation and Planning
- Define field testing protocols aligned with product validation objectives.
- Prepare equipment, accessories, and technical configurations required for test campaigns.
- Identify realistic usage scenarios representative of real operating conditions.
- Organize logistics and ensure readiness of test environments and equipment.
Field Testing in Real Conditions
- Conduct field test campaigns in various environments (mobility, outdoor conditions, intensive usage, etc.).
- Evaluate product and accessory performance including:
- Battery life
- Connectivity and network performance
- Durability and robustness
- Ergonomics and usability
- Compatibility with other devices and systems
- Test products across multiple operational scenarios and environments.
Analysis and Reporting
- Collect, process, and analyse test data and field observations.
- Identify defects, anomalies, or product limitations.
- Produce detailed test reports including findings, root cause analysis, and improvement recommendations.
- Track issues and contribute to corrective action plans.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with R&D, Product Management, and Quality teams to resolve identified issues.
- Participate in product validation phases prior to industrialization.
- Provide feedback to engineering teams to improve product design and performance.
- Support technical discussions regarding field performance.
Continuous Improvement
- Contribute to the evolution of field validation tools and processes.
- Capitalize on user feedback and field experience to improve future testing campaigns.
- Maintain awareness of testing methodologies, validation techniques, and emerging technologies relevant to the role.
Qualifications
Education
Master’s degree (Bac +5 equivalent) in:
- Electronics Engineering
- Telecommunications
- Embedded Systems
- Mechanical Engineering
- Or a related engineering field.
Experience
- 2 to 5 years of experience in product testing, field validation, or quality engineering.
- Experience with consumer electronics, mobile devices, or connected products (IoT) is highly valued.
- Experience working with cross-functional product development teams is a plus.
Skills
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to conduct structured testing and technical validation.
- Experience with test documentation and reporting.
- Understanding of hardware/software interaction in electronic products.
- Ability to work in field environments and travel if required.
