Inspector – Instrumentation & Control (J26-205)

Context

The Inspector – Instrumentation & Control is responsible for monitoring and inspecting the installation, calibration, and testing of instrumentation and control systems on-site. The role ensures compliance with project specifications, technical standards, and quality requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect installation of field instruments (pressure, temperature, flow, level transmitters…)
  • Monitor installation of control systems (PLC, SCADA, control panels, junction boxes)
  • Verify compliance with P&IDs, loop diagrams, wiring diagrams, and specifications
  • Check cable routing, glanding, termination, and tagging
  • Witness calibration, loop checks, and functional testing
  • Review basic technical documents (ITPs, method statements, datasheets)
  • Identify and report non-conformities (NCRs)
  • Follow up corrective actions with contractors
  • Prepare inspection reports and maintain documentation
  • Ensure compliance with HSE requirements and site safety procedures

Requirements

  • Education: Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Instrumentation, Electrical, or Control Systems)
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 10 years of overall experience
    • Minimum 5 years in a similar position
  • Experience in instrumentation installation and site inspection
  • Experience in infrastructure or industrial projects involving automation systems

Technical Skills

  • Good knowledge of instrumentation devices and control systems
  • Basic to intermediate understanding of PLC, DCS, and SCADA systems
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, loop diagrams, and wiring diagrams
  • Knowledge of calibration and testing procedures
  • Familiarity with standards: IEC, ISA (basic understanding)
  • Understanding of QA/QC processes
  • Proficiency in MS Office and reporting tools

Certifications (Advantageous)

  • Instrumentation or calibration certifications
  • ISA certifications
  • CompEx (ATEX / hazardous areas) is a plus
  • Basic QA/QC certification
