Role Overview
For a major port and free zone development project in Libya, we are seeking a Senior HSSE Engineer to lead and enforce Health, Safety, Security and Environmental standards across all project activities.
The role is critical in ensuring full compliance with international safety standards, local regulations and corporate HSSE policies throughout the construction and operational phases.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement and monitor HSSE policies, procedures and management systems.
- Ensure compliance with applicable local and international health, safety and environmental regulations.
- Conduct risk assessments, hazard identification studies and mitigation planning.
- Supervise HSSE performance on site and across all contractors and subcontractors.
- Lead safety audits, inspections and incident investigations.
- Develop and deliver HSSE training programs to project personnel.
- Ensure proper reporting of incidents, near misses and corrective actions.
- Advise project leadership on HSSE risks and improvement strategies.
Required Profile
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety or a related field.
- Minimum 15 years of overall professional experience in HSSE roles.
- At least 5 years in a similar senior position, preferably within large-scale infrastructure, port or industrial projects.
- Strong knowledge of international HSSE standards and best practices.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH, ISO 45001, ISO 14001 or equivalent) are considered advantageous.
- Experience in complex, high-risk environments is highly preferred.
