Context

The Piping Erection Supervisor is responsible for supervising and coordinating piping erection and installation activities during night shift operations on major infrastructure and construction projects in the UK.

The role ensures safe, efficient, and high-quality execution of piping works in accordance with project specifications, construction schedules, and HSE standards. The supervisor plays a key role in maintaining productivity and operational continuity during critical night construction activities.

This is a site-based supervisory role requiring strong piping construction experience, leadership capabilities, and the ability to manage night shift operations in demanding project environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Night Shift Site Supervision
  • Supervise piping erection and installation activities during night shift operations.
  • Coordinate manpower, subcontractors, materials, tools, and equipment required for execution.
  • Ensure night work is performed according to project priorities and schedules.
  • Manage shift handovers and maintain clear communication with day shift teams.

Piping Installation & Erection Activities

  • Supervise: piping erection, fit-up activities, spool installation, support installation, alignment and routing, hydrotest preparation, tie-ins and mechanical completion activities.
  • Ensure work is executed according to isometric drawings, P&IDs, GA drawings, approved method statements, project specifications.
  • Monitor piping quality, tolerances, and installation sequence.

Workforce & Subcontractor Management

  • Lead teams of pipe fitters, welders, riggers, and subcontractors during night operations.
  • Allocate work fronts and monitor productivity levels.
  • Conduct toolbox talks and pre-shift safety briefings.
  • Resolve technical and operational issues during execution.

HSE & Compliance

  • Enforce project HSE procedures and UK construction safety regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with permit-to-work systems, lifting and rigging procedures, confined space requirements, hot work controls, night shift safety protocols.
  • Participate in safety inspections, audits, and incident reporting.
  • Promote strong safety awareness across all piping activities.

Coordination & Reporting

  • Coordinate closely with construction managers, mechanical teams, QA/QC inspectors, planning engineers, HSE departments, logistics/material handling teams.
  • Prepare: daily/night shift reports, progress updates, manpower reports, issue tracking and corrective action reports.
  • Support project milestones and commissioning readiness activities.

Candidate Profile

Education

Diploma or Degree in: Mechanical Engineering, Piping Engineering, Industrial Construction, or equivalent technical discipline.

Experience

  • Minimum 7–12 years of experience in: piping erection supervision, industrial construction, infrastructure projects, oil & gas, power plants, heavy industrial environments.
  • Strong experience managing night shift construction activities.
  • Experience on large EPC or infrastructure projects is highly preferred.

Technical Skills

  • Piping erection and installation supervision.
  • Strong understanding of piping systems, spool installation, supports, welding coordination, hydrotesting preparation.
  • Ability to read and interpret: P&IDs, isometrics, piping layouts, construction drawings.
  • Knowledge of QA/QC inspection processes and piping standards.
  • Familiarity with construction planning and reporting tools.

Language Requirements

  • Professional English mandatory.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with construction teams and project management.
