Context

The Mechanical Erection Supervisor is responsible for supervising and coordinating all mechanical construction and erection activities during night shift operations on major UK infrastructure and construction projects.

The role ensures that all installation work is executed safely, efficiently, and according to project specifications, quality standards, and construction schedules. The supervisor plays a key role in maintaining productivity and operational continuity during critical night work.

This is a hands-on site supervision requiring strong experience in mechanical erection, workforce coordination, HSE compliance, and construction execution in fast-paced environments.

Key Responsibilities

Night Shift Construction Supervision

  • Supervise mechanical erection and installation works during night shift operations.
  • Coordinate manpower, subcontractors, equipment, and material availability for planned activities.
  • Ensure smooth execution of night work in line with construction schedules and priorities.
  • Manage shift handovers and maintain effective communication with day shift teams.

Mechanical Erection Activities

  • Supervise installation and assembly of mechanical equipment, piping systems, steel structures,
  • supports and brackets, rotating and static equipment, HVAC/mechanical systems,
  • industrial modules and packages. Verify works are performed according to: approved drawings, method statements, technical specifications, QA/QC requirements.
  • Monitor alignment, leveling, fit-up, bolting, and installation quality.

Workforce & Subcontractor Management

  • Lead teams of fitters, riggers, welders, and subcontractors during night operations.
  • Allocate work fronts and monitor workforce productivity.
  • Conduct toolbox talks and safety briefings before shift activities.
  • Resolve operational and technical issues arising during execution.

HSE & Compliance

  • Enforce project HSE standards and UK construction safety regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with permit-to-work procedures, lifting operations, confined space activities,

hot work controls, night shift safety protocols.

  • Participate in safety inspections, audits, and incident investigations.
  • Promote a strong safety culture across all night operations.

Coordination & Reporting

  • Coordinate closely with construction management, planning teams, QA/QC inspectors, HSE departments, logistics/material handling teams.

Prepare and submit:

  • daily/night shift reports,
  • progress updates,
  • manpower reports,
  • issue logs and corrective actions.
  • Support achievement of project milestones and deadlines.

Candidate Profile

Education

Diploma or Degree in: Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Construction, Construction Management, or related technical discipline.

Experience

  • Minimum 7–12 years of experience in: mechanical erection supervision, industrial construction, infrastructure projects, oil & gas, power generation, heavy industrial environments.
  • Proven experience managing night shift construction activities.
  • Experience of large EPC or infrastructure projects in the UK or internationally is preferred.

Technical Skills

  • Mechanical erection and construction supervision.
  • Strong understanding of: piping installation, steel erection, mechanical assembly, lifting and rigging activities.
  • Ability to read and interpret: GA drawings, isometrics, P&IDs,
  • construction layouts.
  • Knowledge of QA/QC procedures and inspection processes.
  • Familiarity with construction reporting and planning tools.

Language Requirements

  • Professional English required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with site teams, subcontractors, and management.
