Context

As part of a drinking water treatment plant project in Ukraine, ProjecTTech is seeking an experienced Safety Expert to oversee and ensure the effective implementation of health and safety requirements throughout construction, installation, testing, and commissioning activities.

The Safety Expert will work closely with the project team, contractors, subcontractors, and client representatives to prevent occupational risks, promote a strong safety culture, and ensure compliance with project procedures, applicable regulations, and international safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and monitor the Project Health and Safety Plan and associated procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable health and safety regulations, contractual requirements, and project standards.
  • Conduct regular site safety inspections, audits, and workplace assessments.
  • Identify hazards, assess risks, and ensure appropriate preventive and corrective measures are implemented.
  • Review contractors’ safety plans, risk assessments, method statements, and permit-to-work documentation.
  • Monitor high-risk activities, including lifting operations, confined spaces, excavation, electrical works, work at height, and chemical handling.
  • Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses and monitor corrective actions.
  • Conduct safety inductions, toolbox meetings, awareness sessions, and training activities.
  • Monitor contractors’ and subcontractors’ safety performance and compliance.
  • Maintain safety records, statistics, inspection reports, and incident documentation.
  • Participate in project and site coordination meetings and report key safety issues.
  • Support safe testing, commissioning, start-up, and handover activities.

Technical skills

  • Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety principles for construction and infrastructure projects.
  • Good understanding of hazards associated with drinking water treatment plants and construction sites.
  • Strong knowledge of risk assessment, incident investigation, permit-to-work systems, and emergency preparedness.
  • Experience with construction safety, lifting operations, excavation, confined spaces, electrical safety, and work at height.
  • Knowledge of chemical handling and storage requirements applicable to water treatment facilities.
  • Familiarity with ISO 45001 and recognized international health and safety standards.
  • Ability to review safety plans, risk assessments, method statements, and contractor documentation.
  • Strong safety inspection, auditing, reporting, and performance monitoring capabilities.

Candidate Profile

  • Engineering degree or recognized qualification in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, Environmental Management, or a related discipline.
  • Significant professional experience in health and safety roles on infrastructure, industrial, water, or construction projects.
  • Previous experience on drinking water or wastewater treatment plant projects is highly valued.
  • Proven experience supervising contractors and subcontractors in complex site environments.
  • Recognized safety certification such as NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent is highly valued.
  • Experience working within international and multidisciplinary project teams is preferred.
  • Professional proficiency in English.
  • Availability to work on-site in Ukraine and start immediately.
