Role Overview
For a large-scale port and free zone development project in Libya, we are seeking a Senior Environmental & Social (E&S) Specialist to oversee environmental and social compliance across all project phases.
The role ensures that project activities are conducted in alignment with international environmental standards, social safeguards, and regulatory requirements, while supporting sustainable development objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement environmental and social management frameworks for the project.
- Ensure compliance with applicable local regulations and international standards (e.g., IFC, World Bank, ESG frameworks where applicable).
- Conduct environmental and social impact assessments and monitor mitigation measures.
- Oversee environmental monitoring programs, reporting and corrective action plans.
- Engage with local communities, authorities and stakeholders to address social impacts and concerns.
- Support contractors in implementing environmental and social compliance measures.
- Monitor adherence to occupational health, environmental protection and community engagement commitments.
- Prepare periodic E&S performance reports for project leadership and stakeholders.
Required Profile
- Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Sustainability, Social Sciences or a related field.
- Minimum 15 years of overall professional experience.
- At least 5 years in a similar senior E&S role, preferably in large infrastructure, port or industrial projects.
- Strong knowledge of environmental and social safeguard standards.
- Relevant certifications in environmental management or sustainability are considered advantageous.
- Experience in complex international project environments is highly preferred.
