Context

The Quantity Surveyor is responsible for managing project costs, quantities, and contractual aspects to ensure financial efficiency and control throughout the construction lifecycle. The role supports budgeting, measurement, valuation, and cost monitoring on-site.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and verify quantities (BOQ – Bill of Quantities)
  • Perform measurement and valuation of works (progress payments, interim valuations)
  • Monitor project costs and track variations against budget
  • Evaluate and process variations, claims, and change orders
  • Review and analyze contractors’ invoices and payment applications
  • Assist in preparation of cost reports and financial forecasts
  • Support tendering and procurement processes (quantity take-offs, cost estimates)
  • Ensure contractual compliance and proper documentation
  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and finance teams
  • Maintain accurate records of quantities, costs, and variations

Requirements

  • Education: Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Civil Engineering preferred or Quantity Surveying)
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 10 years of overall experience
    • Minimum 5 years in a similar position
  • Strong experience in quantity surveying within infrastructure or construction projects
  • Experience in site-based and project environments

Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of measurement and quantity take-off methods
  • Experience with BOQ preparation and cost estimation
  • Familiarity with standard forms of contract (FIDIC is a strong advantage)
  • Good understanding of construction methods and cost structures
  • Proficiency in:
    • Excel (advanced)
    • Quantity take-off software (AutoCAD, CostX, or equivalent)
  • Basic knowledge of project control and cost reporting

Certifications (Advantageous)

  • RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) or equivalent
  • Any certification in cost management or construction economics
  • Contract management certifications are a plus

Soft Skills

  • Strong analytical and numerical skills
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Good negotiation and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Strong organizational skills

Additional Requirements

  • Experience in large-scale infrastructure or construction projects
  • Knowledge of contractual and commercial practices
  • Ability to work in fast-paced construction environments
  • Fluent in English (mandatory)
