Context
The Senior Cost Engineer is responsible for managing and controlling project costs throughout the project lifecycle. The role ensures accurate budgeting, cost monitoring, forecasting, and reporting, while supporting project teams in maintaining financial performance and cost efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and manage project budgets and cost control systems
- Monitor project expenditures and track cost performance against budget
- Prepare cost forecasts, cash flow projections, and financial reports
- Analyze cost deviations and identify risks and opportunities
- Support project planning and scheduling teams (cost vs progress alignment)
- Review contracts, variations, and change orders (cost impact analysis)
- Participate in tendering and estimation processes
- Ensure proper cost allocation and tracking across project activities
- Prepare monthly cost reports and KPI dashboards
- Coordinate with project managers, finance, and procurement teams
- Ensure compliance with project financial procedures and controls
Requirements
- Education: Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (or related field)
- Experience:
- Minimum 15 years of overall experience
- Minimum 5 years in a similar position
- Strong experience in cost control within infrastructure or construction projects
- Proven experience on large-scale projects
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of cost control methodologies and project finance
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
- Familiarity with project control tools:
- Primavera P6 (basic coordination with planning)
- Excel (advanced level required)
- ERP systems (SAP or equivalent is a plus)
- Understanding of contracts and commercial management
- Ability to analyze financial data and produce clear reports
Certifications (Advantageous)
- AACE (Certified Cost Professional – CCP)
- PMP (Project Management Professional)
- Any certification in cost control, project control, or finance
Soft Skills
- Strong analytical and numerical skills
