Context
The Mechanical Inspector is responsible for monitoring and inspecting mechanical works on-site to ensure compliance with project specifications, approved drawings, and applicable standards. The role focuses on installation quality, verification, and support during testing and commissioning phases.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect mechanical installations (piping, HVAC systems, equipment, steel structures…)
- Ensure compliance with approved drawings, specifications, and standards
- Monitor contractors’ activities and workmanship quality
- Verify installation, alignment, and assembly of mechanical equipment
- Inspect piping works (fit-up, supports, routing)
- Witness testing activities (pressure tests, leak tests, functional checks…)
- Review basic technical documents (drawings, method statements, ITPs)
- Identify and report non-conformities (NCRs)
- Follow up corrective actions with contractors
- Prepare inspection reports and maintain documentation
- Ensure compliance with HSE requirements and site safety procedures
Requirements
- Education: Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical Engineering preferred)
- Experience:
- Minimum 10 years of overall experience
- Minimum 5 years in a similar position
- Experience in mechanical installation and site inspection
- Experience in infrastructure or industrial projects
Technical Skills
- Good knowledge of mechanical systems (piping, HVAC, rotating/static equipment)
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and P&IDs
- Basic knowledge of standards: ASME, API, ISO
- Familiarity with testing and inspection procedures
- Understanding of QA/QC processes
- Basic reporting and documentation skills
- Proficiency in MS Office
Certifications (Advantageous)
- Mechanical or piping inspection certifications
