Context
The Senior Inspector – Instrumentation & Control is responsible for ensuring that all instrumentation and control systems are installed, tested, and commissioned in compliance with project specifications, international standards, and safety requirements. The role focuses on quality assurance, inspection, and technical validation of I&C systems on-site.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect installation of instrumentation and control systems (field instruments, control panels, PLC/SCADA systems, cabling, junction boxes…)
- Verify compliance with approved drawings, P&IDs, loop diagrams, and specifications
- Review and validate technical documents (ITPs, method statements, datasheets)
- Monitor contractors’ work to ensure adherence to quality standards and project requirements
- Witness calibration, loop checks, functional tests, and commissioning activities
- Ensure proper installation and termination of instrumentation cables and control wiring
- Identify and report non-conformities (NCRs) and follow up on corrective actions
- Coordinate with engineering, QA/QC, and construction teams
- Maintain accurate inspection records and reporting
- Ensure strict compliance with HSE policies and procedures
Requirements
- Education: Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Instrumentation, Electrical, or Control Systems)
- Experience:
- Minimum 15 years of overall experience
- Minimum 5 years in a similar inspection role
- Proven experience in infrastructure or industrial projects involving automation and control systems
- Strong site-based experience (construction & commissioning phases)
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of instrumentation (pressure, temperature, flow, level transmitters, control valves…)
- Experience with PLC, DCS, and SCADA systems
- Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, loop diagrams, wiring diagrams
- Knowledge of calibration procedures and testing methods
- Familiarity with international standards: IEC, ISA, ISO
- Experience in inspection and QA/QC processes
- Good command of reporting tools and MS Office
Certifications (Advantageous)
- ISA (International Society of Automation) certifications
- CompEx (for hazardous areas / ATEX)
- Calibration or instrumentation certifications
- Any QA/QC or inspection-related certification
Soft Skills
- High attention to detail
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
- Good communication with multidisciplinary teams
- Ability to work under pressure on complex sites
- Strong organizational and reporting skills
Additional Requirements
- Experience in high-risk or regulated environments (industrial plants, oil & gas, energy, infrastructure systems)
- Knowledge of ATEX / hazardous area compliance is a strong advantage
- Fluent in English (mandatory)
