Context

The I&C Construction Supervisor is responsible for supervising and coordinating all instrumentation and control construction activities during night shift operations on major infrastructure and construction projects in the UK.

The role ensures that installation works are executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with project specifications, quality standards, and construction schedules. The supervisor plays a key role in maintaining productivity and operational continuity during critical night operations.

This is a site-based supervisory role requiring strong experience in instrumentation and control systems installation, construction coordination, and HSE management within industrial and infrastructure environments.

Key Responsibilities

Night Shift Site Supervision

  • Supervise all instrumentation and control construction activities during night shift operations.
  • Coordinate manpower, subcontractors, materials, tools, and equipment required for execution.
  • Ensure smooth coordination and continuity between day and night shift teams.
  • Monitor work progress and ensure compliance with project schedules and priorities.

Instrumentation & Control Installation Activities

  • Supervise installation of field instruments, junction boxes, cable trays and supports, impulse tubing, control panels, marshalling cabinets, control and instrumentation cables, control systems interfaces.
  • Ensure work is executed according to: P&IDs, hook-up drawings, loop diagrams, wiring diagrams, technical specifications, approved method statements.
  • Monitor cable routing, instrument mounting, tubing installation, and termination quality.
  • Workforce & Subcontractor Management
  • Lead teams of instrument technicians, electricians, cable pullers, and subcontractors during night operations.
  • Allocate work fronts and monitor workforce productivity.
  • Conduct toolbox talks and shift safety briefings.
  • Resolve technical and operational issues during execution.

HSE & Compliance

  • Enforce project HSE procedures and UK construction safety standards.
  • Ensure compliance with permit-to-work systems, electrical isolation procedures, work at height regulations, confined space requirements, night shift safety protocols.
  • Participate in safety inspections, audits, and incident investigations.
  • Promote strong safety awareness across all I&C activities.

Coordination & Reporting

  • Coordinate closely with construction managers, electrical and mechanical teams, QA/QC inspectors,

HSE departments, logistics/material handling teams, commissioning teams, planning engineers.

  • Prepare: daily/night shift reports, progress updates, manpower reports, issue logs and corrective action reports. Support commissioning readiness and project milestones.

Candidate Profile

Education

Diploma or Degree in: Instrumentation Engineering, Electrical & Instrumentation Engineering, Control Systems, Industrial Automation, or equivalent technical discipline.

Experience

  • Minimum 7–12 years of experience in: instrumentation and control construction supervision, industrial construction, infrastructure projects, oil & gas, power generation, heavy industrial environments.
  • Strong experience supervising night shift construction activities.
  • Experience on EPC or major infrastructure projects preferred.

Technical Skills

  • Instrumentation and control installation supervision.
  • Strong understanding of: field instrumentation, cable installation, tubing and hook-up activities, control systems interfaces, loop checking preparation.
  • Ability to read and interpret: P&IDs, loop diagrams, hook-up drawings, wiring diagrams, cable schedules.
  • Familiarity with QA/QC inspection processes and commissioning support activities.
  • Good reporting and construction coordination skills.

Language Requirements

  • Professional English mandatory.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with site teams, subcontractors, and project management.
