Context
As part of a major pharmaceutical construction project, the Welding QA/QC Engineer ensures the quality control and compliance of all welding activities related to piping, structural steel, and equipment installation. The role requires strong knowledge of welding processes, materials, and international standards to guarantee compliance with GMP, EN/ASME, and project specifications.
Missions & Responsibilities
- Provide technical guidanceto welding inspectors and subcontractors.
- Review and approve welding-related quality documentation:
- WPS (Welding Procedure Specification)
- PQR (Procedure Qualification Record)
- WPQ (Welder Performance Qualification)
- ITP / PQP specific to welding
- Ensure compliance with ASME IX, EN ISO 15614, EN 287/ISO 9606and project welding codes.
- Monitor welding activities on site:
- Piping fabrication and installation (carbon, stainless steel, alloys)
- Structural steel fabrication and erection
- Equipment tie-ins and supports
- Supervise and coordinate NDT activities(RT, UT, PT, MT, PMI, hardness testing).
- Check materials traceability(heat numbers, MTCs – Material Test Certificates).
- Follow-up and manage QORs, NCRs, repair welding procedures and requalification tests.
- Ensure welds meet project quality standards(visual inspection, dimension check, acceptance criteria).
- Verify compliance with GMP standardsfor welded systems impacting clean utilities (WFI, PW, gases).
- Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors regarding welding and NDT scope.
- Support turnover and dossier completion(welding logs, weld maps, as-built, certificates).
- Prepare weekly and monthly QA/QC welding reportsfor CM/PM.
- (Bonus) Familiarity with EIDA Toolfor inspection and documentation tracking.
Profile & Requirements
- Degree in Mechanical/Metallurgy/Welding Engineeringor equivalent.
- 5+ years QA/QC experience in welding activitieswithin construction projects (pharma, oil & gas, power, or industrial).
- Solid expertise in:
- Welding processes (SMAW, GTAW, FCAW, SAW, Orbital welding)
- Codes & Standards: ASME, EN, ISO
- NDT methods and acceptance criteria
- Certified CSWIP 3.1 / IWE / IWT / AWS CWIhighly preferred.
- Knowledge of pharmaceutical/clean utility pipingrequirements (GMP, FDA, ISO).
- Strong documentation, traceability, and reporting skills.
- Fluent in English(mandatory). German is an asset.
- Rigorous, detail-oriented, and proactive in solving technical and quality issues.
