Context
As part of major infrastructure and construction projects in the UK, the Material Handling Supervisor is responsible for overseeing night shift material handling and logistics operations on site or within warehouse/storage facilities.
The role ensures efficient movement, storage, availability, and distribution of materials required for ongoing construction activities while maintaining strict compliance with HSE, quality, and operational standards.
This is a highly operational, field-based role requiring strong coordination, leadership, and safety management skills in a fast-paced construction environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Night Shift Operations Supervision
- Supervise all night shift material handling and logistics activities.
- Coordinate receiving, storage, movement, and distribution of construction materials and equipment.
- Ensure timely material availability to support construction and installation activities.
- Monitor workflow efficiency and operational continuity during night operations.
- Team Management
- Lead and supervise material handlers, forklift operators, warehouse staff, and logistics personnel.
- Allocate tasks and manage shift priorities effectively.
- Conduct shift briefings and ensure proper handover with day shift teams.
- Promote discipline, productivity, and teamwork across night operations.
- Inventory & Material Control
- Monitor stock levels and material consumption.
- Ensure accurate tracking and documentation of incoming/outgoing materials.
- Conduct inventory checks and resolve discrepancies.
- Maintain organized storage areas and proper material segregation.
- Health, Safety & Compliance
- Enforce HSE policies and UK construction safety standards.
- Identify and mitigate operational risks associated with night shift activities.
- Participate in toolbox talks, safety inspections, and incident reporting.
- Ensure safe operation of handling equipment and compliance with lifting/manual handling procedures.
- Site Coordination
- Coordinate closely with construction teams, warehouse coordinators, logistics managers, transport, contractors, HSE personnel, project management teams.
- Support project schedules and operational priorities.
Candidate Profile
Education
Diploma or Degree in:
- Logistics,
- Supply Chain,
- Industrial Engineering,
- Construction Management, or equivalent practical experience.
Experience
Minimum 5–10 years of experience in:
- material handling,
- construction logistics,
- warehouse supervision,
- infrastructure projects,
- industrial or heavy construction environments.
- Previous experience supervising night shift operations is strongly preferred.
- Experience on UK construction or infrastructure projects is an advantage.
Technical Skills
- Material handling and warehouse operations.
- Construction logistics coordination.
- Inventory and stock management.
- Knowledge of lifting and handling procedures.
- Familiarity with ERP/logistics systems (SAP, Oracle, etc.) is a plus.
- Strong understanding of HSE regulations and construction site safety.
Language Requirements

- Ability to communicate effectively with multicultural teams and management.
